Cosmofarma launches its 17th edition

Cosmofarma, the leading event for the international pharmacy world, launches its 17th edition onFriday April 19th 2013in theBolognafair complex.

“Every year,” says Duccio Campagnoli, President of BolognaFiere and SoGeCos, the company that organises Cosmofarma, “manufacturers, professionals and the specialist press come together at Cosmofarma to consolidate their business, develop new relationships, introduce new products onto the market and discuss subjects of particular relevance to the sector. It is a platform of excellence for pharmaceutics, cosmetics, applied technology and the whole range of services for pharmacies and it confirms BolognaFiere’s reputation as an invaluable centre for industrial innovation in all different types of specialisation. It will be a real ‘Pharmaweek’ in Bologna with the Pharmintech and Cosmofarma exhibitions, a week of innovation, information and focused debate about the best of the worldwide pharmaceutical industry.”

Cosmofarma Exhibition 2013 attracts over 350 exhibitors, including a substantial contingent of foreign firms this year.

Besides the usual sectors dedicated to services for pharmacies, “natural” cosmetics and dermocosmetics, Cosmofarma is focusing on four “thematic areas”: Baby Care, Pet Care, Food and Orthopaedic-Health. The traditional channel of choice for these kinds of products is still the pharmacy, with a wide range of products and, above all, a selection of specialised references which are increasingly appreciated by the end consumer. Cosmofarma 2013 is highlighting these areas, which also play an important role in building customer loyalty in climates, like the current situation, of increased competitiveness.

In order to give particular visibility to exhibitors’ products, as well as to products from these thematic areas, a “NoveltyGarden” will be created for the first time inside the Service Centre, a real garden dedicated to companies’ new products.

The displays set up in the scenic surroundings of this evocative space will contain a range of new ideas. This is a highly innovative project which presents, at the heart of the exhibition, previews of products which visitors will be able to discover in detail within the exhibition spaces.

The traditional pharmaceutical world is increasingly giving more space to commercial ventures. Cosmoprof 2013 has taken note of this trend and is encouraging us to reflect on this balance between “ethical” and “commercial”. During the three days inBolognathe “First Cosmofarma Observatory on Italians and Pharmacies” will be taking place, presenting research commissioned by Cosmofarma and carried out by Professor Enrico Finzi of Astra Ricerche. This will be a significant occasion thanks to the wealth of information that has been gathered about the relationship between Italians and pharmacies, with particular reference to the four special thematic areas which will be taking centre stage this year.

There is a full conventions calendar with over 150 hours of conferences and ECM courses, a unique opportunity for up-to-the-minute professional training, interaction and discussion that cannot be missed in the current climate of constantly developing regulations and policies.

Subjects range from “Specialisation as a competitive incentive” to “Service-providing pharmacy”, from “Pharmacies for the future in a modern distribution contest” to “Slow pharmacy”, and there are even more specialised conventions on “Metabolic disease” and “Lipidomics in the preventive pharmacy sector”. Saturday April 20th is the date of the customary joint convention organised by FOFI and FEDERFAMA in partnership with Cosmofarma.


Cosmofarma will have an international flavour, welcoming buyers from 20 countries (Europe, theMiddle EastandBrazil). Foreign institutions and chambers of commerce will be taking part with the aim of making the exhibition an international hub for the pharmaceutical market. For the first time Cosmofarma has dedicated a special focus space to one country with a view to promoting and fostering constructive dialogue between nations and creating business opportunities. The first day of the 2013 edition (Friday April 19th) will be held in conjunction with Pharmintech, the exhibition of technology, machinery and solutions for the drugs industry, in order to provide a more user-friendly visiting experience for international operators interested in the complete supply chain.

Cosmoprof 2013 will be hosting an exhibition dedicated to Carlo Erba: “Innovation in Pharmacies”. The exhibition tells the story of the founder of the first Italian pharmaceutical factory. As it tells Carlo Erba’s story, the exhibition takes visitors on an unprecendented journey through the most important stages in the company’s development, moving from the heir of a family ofLombardpharmacists to the creation of the small family-run empires that characterised Italian industrial development in the 19th century.


Cosmofarma 2013 will be placing a special focus on “social” themes, with three initiatives concerned with ethics, sustainability and solidarity.

– A series of meetings organised by the FRANCESCA RAVA FOUNDATION to discuss “ethical pharmacy” in order to bring in an initiative to support integrated healthcare projects to complement the services traditionally offered by pharmacies.

– A “mobile clinic” sponsored by ANT (the National Tumour Association) for early diagnosis of melanoma (this will be operating on Sunday April 21st).

– An initiative to support the city and district of Crevalcore, which was hit by an earthquake. Thanks to the generous participation of companies exhibiting at the recent Cosmopack 2013 event, Cosmofarma is selling beauty and make-up products created by these “Made inItaly” companies at special prices. The proceeds will be donated to the fund for rebuilding Crevalcore.

On the evening of Friday April 19th, in Palazzo Aldrovandi Montanari in the heart ofBologna’s old town centre, Cosmofarma will be hosting a gala event to award prizes to the pharmacy world. The Care Awards (prizes for the best advertising by pharmaceutical companies), the Premio Fenagifar for the best young pharmacist and the Premio Banco Farmaceutico will all be presented. This year the Premio Cosmofarma al Farmacista dell’Anno (Cosmofarma Prize for the Pharmacist of the Year) will also be awarded for the first time. The compère for the evening will be Elisa Isoardi.
